It’s no secret that first looks are a controversial topic in the wedding industry. Odds are, if you ask someone… they’ll tell you whether they are “pro” first look or “con” first look. It can be easy to lose sight of your own feelings and opinions, especially when it comes to wedding planning. Jeffrey (my husband) and I knew that we didn’t feel like a first look was right for us as a couple, despite knowing it would save us time on our wedding day. Whether you’re leaning one way or the other, I’m here to lay out the Pros and Cons of a First Look.
Pros of having a First Look:
Helps with your Wedding Day Timeline.
Doing a first look allows you and your bridal party to take all of your photos before the ceremony to allow more time to party!
Allows for an intimate moment with your partner.
There’s something so sweet and romantic about seeing your person for the first time on your wedding day. Soak it up, my friend.
Calms your nerves.
After spending the whole day apart, coming together before you walk down the aisle can soothe any of those pre-ceremony jitters you may have.
Cons of having a First Look:
Eliminates the element of “awe/surprise” walking down the aisle.
If you’re fearful of losing the element of surprise as you walk down the aisle, maybe a first look doesn’t appeal to you.
Breaks “tradition”. There’s nothing wrong with keeping to tradition.
In the past, it was seen as bad luck if the groom saw the bride before the ceremony.
If you haven’t caught on yet… I want to encourage you to do what feels best for YOU and your love. On paper, it’s easy to write up Pros and Cons of a First Look. But what it comes down to is what you want to do for your wedding day. If a first look doesn’t feel right, you can opt for a first touch or a first prayer. Whatever you choose to do, make sure that it is decided by you and your partner.
