If you’re like me, you’ve probably set goals for yourself in the past (or recently have as 2022 just began). As a full-time wedding photographer and educator, I spend a ton of time on screens – whether it’s my phone while I post content to Instagram or my computer where I spend endless hours editing images. I made it my goal this past year to intentionally read more. Fun fact: I read maybe one book in 2020. It’s safe to say I was motivated to succeed; I read NINE books this past year! Of those nine, I’ve put together a list of my top books of 2021.

Top 5 Reads of 2021

1. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: John Mark Comer.

If you haven’t read this book, please PLEASE either read it or listen to it. Not only is Comer an incredible (and sassy) writer, but this book will also hit you in the gut multiple times. Think you live a slow and patient life? Don’t think you need to slow down? Think again. This book literally is life-changing. I’m reading it again and WOW, 10/10 recommend for literally ANYBODY and EVERYBODY to read.

2. Atomic Habits: James Clear.

This book is for anybody who wants to work on time management in a practical way that makes sense. This book will make you stop and think and is INSANELY easy to implement into your life. Easy read!

3. Burnout: Emily (PhD) and Amelia Nagoski (DMA).

Ready to understand why you as a female experience burnout differently than men? Well, this book will lay it out simply with science, examples, and applicable steps to help you prevent burnout. Honestly, I highly recommend this book to all females, whether you experience burnout or not!

4. Garden City: John Mark Comer.

Another Comer book? Big surprise. Not really haha. This book honestly shifted my perspective on life on earth, what Heaven will be like, and how to bring Kingdom principles to earth. If you’re looking for an easy read that will stop and make you think, this is the book for you.

5. The E Myth, Revisited: Michael E. Gerber.

If you’re an entrepreneur, this book is for you. Enough said. If you are either already running a business or are about to start running a business, you will learn so dang much from this book.

What was one of YOUR favorite books you read this year? Let me know down below. I’m always looking for more non-fiction books to read, so be sure to follow me on Instagram (@sarahyatesphoto). Be sure to keep up with my other blogs for more inspiration and lifestyle content!
